Apartment LOVE: Erika Brechtel

This place is a bit different than everything I've been featuring lately.  Hello Black, Remember us?

But honestly, I would expect nothing less from Erika, owner of Small Shop Studio

It's Chic and Edgy, and the brilliant woman even shares her biggest home decorating tip: The 5 Pieces Rule. Make sure to have at least one piece that's textured/patterned, shiny, modern, organic and vintage.

Looks like it works to me.

6.23.14

This week is sort of like the calm before the storm. The storm being my 10-day trip back East to New England and New York for family festivities and a work research trip. Needless to say, this week is going to be busy getting ready.

Also this week...

+ I am going to continue not to online shop, although these shoes above are PRETTY tempting, and only available online, and relatively cheap.

+ I am starting a new book. it will either be Emily Giffin's newest, the next Janet Austen: Emma or The Hundred Foot Journey.

+ I will probably put a pretty good dent in Orange is the New Black.

+ I need to start looking for a Bridesmaid dress for my brother's wedding in March.

+ I would like to blog a few recipes but I'm not sure I am going to have time. I have two photographed and ready to go.

+ I've been making the most delicious sandwiches, which yes I completely ripped off Jimmy John's: turkey, cheese, cucumber, tomato, guac in a lettuce wrap. Hello beach club unwich.

+ I need to bring my camera lens in to a shop to get looked at. It's getting stuck when you zoom in and out.

+ I MUST make it to the gym at least twice.

+ I'm heading back East with Mr. Bennett, for the first time, for my cousin's wedding to her high school sweetheart! I cannot wait to show him my old stomping grounds, and get some delicious lobster, and steamers, and whole belly fried clams!

Link Love

I'm sorry I didn't get around to posting this week. I did have good intentions and then, as always, things came up and I didn't have time.

But I do have time to share with you some links I loved this week.

Happy Friday!

- - -

I think the Bostonian in me has always loved Brownstones and it's the style house I'm really drawn to. An adorable, quaint townhouse with a staircase up to a colorful door. Jury is still out what color but you can imagine how much I loved seeing these beauts.

Speaking of seeing an amazing home, Monika Hibbs started revealing images to her home. First up was her office.

I love how this article on food pronunciations made fun of Giada's. Then was pleasantly surprised with how many words I got right. Yes, I know I probably have an unfair advantage.

Road Trip for Food Lovers...to Madison. I must admit I think A LOT was left out.

I'm still not online shopping, except for a dilemma in saving money on new, and very much so needed, running sneakers, but I have to share the best Chicago etsy shops. Yes, I favorited them all for later.

Have I mentioned how much I love Hygge & West wallpaper? Seriously the Petal Pusher Collection inspired my blog design and their newest collaboration is with Rifle Paper Co, one of my favorites, and I'm digging the ebony pineapple print.

In movie news, one of my favorites, Father of the Bride III is happening. And yes, I share the sentiment with this writer that I sincerely hope that Martin Short will reprise his role as Franck Eggelhoffer. Every party has a pooper that's why we invited you....

Also, David Wain confirmed a Prequel to Wet Hot American Summer with the original cast.

I could not agree with Devon more when she says a desk really should be a place to inspire us...and I'll be honest, my desk is probably less so. But I always make sure it's organized and my desk accessories are fun!

Remember last week when I shared my love for Glamour's Hey It's Okay...well Apartment Therapy did a similar thing with giving yourself a break in the morning. I think I need to give myself LESS of a break in the morning. I'm also really obsessed with the bedroom featured here and determined to find it on the pages of the photographer's stuff. I did reach out to her via twitter.

After watching this week's Bachelorette, I would like to not only read but also see The Hundred Foot Journey. Ps for those Bachelorette fans, I love Brian.

Have I talked about my love-hate relationship with I Wanna Marry Harry? I know I've told people but I'm not sure if I have put it on here. You see, I love Harry. I'm sure this isn't news to anyone who has been reading this for more than a week...BUT I'm torn each week whether or not to watch it as I feel like I'm condoning such a terrible thing. Matt bares almost 0 resemblance to Harry and The Royal Family would NEVER allow this  It kills me, but as my mother and future sister-in-law had to remind me, I may just be too smart for this show.

Can you believe we only had one Buzzfeed article this week? But it's a good one, cause I love me some Gilmore Girls. The 23 Wisest Things Lorelai Gilmore ever said.

Apartment LOVE: Kirstie Challis

England is certainly not known for it's color. Typically, it's known for its greys, yes, spelled that way. And, now that I've seen this home in London, I know where all the color has gone.

Link Love

Three weeks in a row of Link Love? I don't mind it! I'm up to Wisconsin today enjoying and soaking up the sunshine and warmth after a week of TERRIBLE weather. [Seriously, it was like fall here in Chicago....except not glorious like fall. It was rainy and gross.]

Have a happy weekend!

xo

I am a sucker for Glamour's Hey It's OK....so I loved when Carly did her own version. I'll have to save that idea for someday, too.

Did you know Audrey Hepburn had a pet deer? These rare photos are amazing.

I visited Love Lock brides in Prague and Paris, this story of Paris' collapsing makes me sad and warms my heart at the same time. Too much love.

One of these days I will try a scrambled hard boiled egg. But, I did worry I wouldn't be able to shake it. Apparently, there's a new gadget for that.

I've been singing Trader Joe's praises for quite some time. Here's 17 things you may not have known about them. I didn't know about a single one of them, and really liked the photo of the Madison store, one of the firsts I ever shopped at.

Apartment LOVE: Stephanie

Sit down. Because when I make this next statement, you are not going to believe me.

This apartment is a Garden Apartment AKA a Basement Unit.

I am so so impressed by how Stephanie transformed this place, and make it so light and airy. I'm also so impressed by her DIY skills: I am smitten with that desk!

6.9.14

This week...

+ I need to go through and unsubscribe to all the email lists I'm on and inevitably delete ever single morning when I wake up.

+ Speaking of subscriptions, I picked up the latest domino magazine last Friday and they're now offering subscriptions so I should probably sign up for that asap.

+ is the beginning of wedding season, I'm attending wedding number 1 of 5. And, that makes this week a 4-day week for me.

+ I got invited to the Kalla Chicago launch party this Wednesday.

+ I need to stop eating the Captain Crunch I bought after a craving last week. It's Red Berries, incase you were wondering.

+ Suits, Royal Pains and Orange is the New Black are back!

+ I may start a new book. Yes, I finished Mansfield Park. Either the next Jane Austen or Emily Giffin's or Jane Green's newest book.

+ I should book my train tickets for my New York City work trip in July.

+ Yes, I plan to do Soul Cycle at least twice while I'm there.

Happy Monday, everyone! I have a feeling it's going to be a good one.

Link Love

This week went by fast. Without further ado, here's what I read along the way...

+ Growing up, family gatherings always meant one thing: Half Moons from Grandpa. Now, our half moons were not your typical black and whites. They were much softer, cake-like, with real frosting, not a glaze. Regardless, I enjoyed reading a bit of the history behind these goodies.

+ Speaking of goodies, I need to find a reason to buy these Chips AHoy Cookies stuffed with Oreos and Birthday Cake.

+ Kalla, a new flower delivery service, launched in Chicago this week. I'm a little miffed I wasn't on their free flowers for launch day list and am beyond dying for the Bea & the Lady Arrangement.

+ Carrie Bradshaw has been robbed i.e. She did not make the list of the best fictional residents of New York. Yet Samantha Jones did?!

+ I remember the first time I walked into a Bikram class. My roommate at the time just said we were going to yoga. I knew nothing about the heat or the 90 minute time period. While I did get hooked for quite some time, I don't see myself venturing to a class anytime soon.

+ You know my fascination with prints, and lettering, and cards. Well I gotta get myself to NSS, the National Stationary Show.

+ This week, I made it to the gym Monday and Tuesday, and ate healthy those days too. Then Wednesday hit, I got stressed and ugh it's Friday. This girl, however, is inspiring.

+ Remember how I said I'm not online shopping. Well I'm not for awhile. But Mr. Bennett pointed out that giving it up altogether was probably less than reasonable. So instead, I've decided that I am going to take a hiatus from it. And then, when I do allow myself to shop once again, I will only be buying things online that I cannot get in person. If I can get myself to a store, its to the store I go. So online shopping will really be relegated to: Shopbop, BaubleBar and Etsy. Speaking of Etsy, I love Pretty & Fun's monthly Shops You Should Know, a round up of her favorite shops on the site.

+ I am 9277 days old today. I found that out, and some more way more interesting facts.

A Pasta Party

Warning: This Recipe(?) is by no means paleo-friendly. This past weekend, I had a bit of a mishap. Friday was so busy at work that I didn't have time to eat soooo by the time I got home from work, I was A BIT hungry. I was ambitious though and decided I wanted to make pasta with my favorite pesto that Mr. Bennett brought me back from Madison a few weeks back.

However, after a mishap with the shrimp, I had myself way too much pasta and the take out menu from Crisp out on the counter and delivery on its way. Anddddd a whole lot of unused and cooked pasta. Shelby and I decided to make a whole lot of pasta salads.

Three to be exact.

Greek Orzo Pasta Salad

Ingredients:
Orzo
Sliced Olives
Tomatoes
Cucumbers
Feta Cheese
Oregano
Salt & Pepper
Yasou Greek Dressing

Barb Holstein's Famous Pasta Salad

Ingredients:
Penne
Edamame
Cheddar Cheese
Sliced Olives
Light Italian Dressing

Pasta Salad a la Herb aka TBM

Ingredients:
Herb, Shelby's son basil plant
Tomato
Fresh Mozzarella
Salt & Pepper
Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Apartment LOVE: Cat Cantrell

It makes perfect sense to me that this girl's apartment is perfectly girly, pink and gold, she is after all in the bridal industry, working as a Marketing Coordinator at a Bridal Shop. If you ask me, it's the perfect nook for a lady.

By the way, the exterior is even pink.
