Que me in: Punctuality

For anyone that has ever met me, they know I watch/idolize Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie on The Today Show every morning. With that said, this segment really caught my eye this AM.

We all have that friend or friend(s) who choose to disregard time. I admire those people for being able to go with the flow and for their ability to be so flexible. Nevertheless, I am not that person, and it makes my skin crawl having to wait on people. I believe in punctuality. A trait that I've proudly accepted from my father, an advocate of early arrival.

When I was young, I remember my dad telling my brothers and I to be ready to go to the airport by 7am, and I'd say 85% of the time, we were out of the house by 6:40am. I shouldn't say just when I was young, because this still happens today. My family, minus my youngest brother are all very punctual. He carries the laid-back gene.

I have a couple close friends, who I have to literally drag out the door. I have a boyfriend, who has made improvements, but I have the ability to drive him crazy about being somewhere earlier than our reservation time. It must go hand-in-hand with my ADD gene, because prior to a dinner reservation, I prefer getting to the restaurant 20 minutes earlier, having a drink at the bar, just being on location calms my nerves. And, if I do have to wait for my table past the expected reservation time, I am not a happy camper. I know this is not the fault of the hostess, but my dad always taught me to be obnoxious. Kidding...kind've.

My advice, is just be conscious of other people's time. If you think you are going to be running late, express that possibility. Every once in awhile, make a habit to wear a watch for more than just the accessory purpose.

Some changes

Hi readers!

As I alluded to on Monday and a bit last week, you may have noticed a few chances here on carly on queue. And if you haven't, I STRONGLY urge you to get off your phone, grab your computer and check it out.

I enlisted the help of Danielle Moss. Danielle is a freelance graphic designer/photographer, blogger and co-founder of The Everygirl. I've mentioned before how much I love her style. (see: here and here) And I cannot say how freakin' happy I am that I chose Danielle for this project and how the blog came out. I find myself visiting it on a very frequent basis just to marvel, squeal and smile at its beauty.

I also cannot tell you enough how easy-peasy this girl is to work with. She's QUICK, like beyond quick, on top of trends, invested in her clients, communicative and talented. I think it helped that I love her style so much making her ideas automatically appeal to me. She got it. And, I think that's really important when enlisting a designer.

Plus, I loved that Danielle could do everything: the design work, the installation and other applications. And, I know I'll be using her for future projects...already enlisted her to do my email signature. And, I told her when I one day move/buy a home, I'm enlisting her and her partner's help to design and style the entire thing. A girl can dream right??

Anyway, I'd HIGHLY suggest this girl to anyone and suggest you check out her portfolio, stalk her blog, instagram and the Everygirl.

BONUS: she's a dog lover like me, and is always posting pictures of her adorable little guy, Buddy.

Apartment LOVE: Lauren Gelb Weisbarth

Have I ever mentioned my love addiction to daily online sales such as Gilt, Joss & Main and One King's Lane? Well this week's apartment comes from a lover of those too. Only this girl keeps in the family. Read: her sister, Alison Pincus, is the co-founder of One King's Lane.

With help of her sister and designer, Hilary Thomas, they created a home that stays true her motto, "Use what you have. Make it work. Update with accessories. Play a little."

[via]

Can you believe it's already the last week of June? Where does the time go?

This week...

  • Will be a 4 Day week, I'm taking off tomorrow from work to get in some much needed things done :)
  • My trainer and I are yet again getting back on track, literally, and doing an Equfit to see how far I've come again. Hopefully, it's not as bad as I think
  • We're also training 3 times this week
  • And because of that, I'll be getting up before 7:30, three days this week
  • And hopefully before 8:30 the other two days
  • ...I've also, for the second week in a row, thought about my meals for the week and planned ahead. I even bought deli turkey (I'm a Boars Head fan in case you were wondering) for the first time in a long time
  • You're probably, atleast if you read this online, noticing some changes on this blog here. And while it's almost complete, there will be more on that later this week
  • I bought myself some peonies yesterday and I could not love them more. See here.
  • I'm thinking about doing this program at Best Buy and upgrading my IPhone 4 to a 5. Anyone done this and have any thoughts? What''s the catch? I'm still investigating.
  • And when I do bite the bullet and get a new phone, I think I need to purchase this case, which is now on sale!
  • But, don't worry I'm still on my no purchases purge, hanging in and just keeping a list.
  • And there's some other potential exciting changes coming soon but more on that another time!

The smell of sunscreen

Usually by now, it feels like summer. I wish I could say this spring has been the same as usual. But it has certainly not been. It's been rainy and chilly and not your typical June weather.

I'm hoping that today not only marks the official day that summer begins but also mother nature decides it can begin now too.

I want fun pool and beach, minus the sand, days, weeknight activities and the smell of sunscreen.

I confess, I love the smell of sunscreen, especially the kind with the baby's butt on the bottom.

...I'll also confess, I love the smell of a spray tan. Weird, I know.

Que Me In: Why Working With Women Is Awesome.

This article caught my eye this AM.

For the past couple years, I've found myself fortunate to work with some pretty awesome gals.

Along with Huffington Post's List, I came up with some positive notes of ladies in the work-force.

1. We know the sorority pose.

2. Playing dress-up is still fun.

3. There are perks to the job -- braids.

4. The best come in pairs with the same name.

6. Someone is always up for a good meal.

7. We eat, therefore we MUST workout.

8. There's always Tiffany's.

SJP

Like Carrie Bradshaw, I like my money right where I can see it...hanging in my closet.

So you can imagine how excited I was to hear that Carrie Bradshaw Sarah Jessica Parker will be working alongside Manolo Blahnik CEO George Malkemus to create a line of shoes for Nordstom.

[Side Note: do we think this counts as a pair of Manolos on my list of 101 things?}

The line, aptly named SJP will be shoes and sandals ranging from $200 to $300, bags for $700 and trench coats. All of which will be sold exclusively at Nordstroms.

And yes, SJP told Vogue that her footwear experiences come from, you guessed it, Carrie Brawshaw. "I got to play that role, I wore a lot of shoes...and by default I learned an enormous amount. It's hard for me to, no pun intended, walk away from that," says Parker.

And to quote Bradshaw, the real authority on all things shoes, particular those of the Manolo label, "The fact is, sometimes it's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes. That's why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun.

Amen.

Apartment LOVE: Michaela Warner and Alexa Osgood

When Rue came out last week and featured this home, I was just about in love. So much so that I may have even considered taking the single bed in this gorgeous apartment....ok, probably not. But I do love it.

And, think it's the perfect studio for someone living alone, or in this case, two college girls just having some fun!

6.17.13

I think yesterday was a change of pace for me. I woke up at 6:30 am, about 15 min before my alarm was set to go off. I ran a 5k, with a few friends, and really felt like it was easy. Then, I went for brunch, took a cat nap and went along being productive: cleaning the apartment, laundry, organizing, even cleaning through my jewelry, grocery shopping, making chicken for this week's lunch and more.

I call this progress.

This week...

+ As I said, I've prepared meals for the week i.e. marinated and baked chicken to add to salads for lunch, planned a few meals, shrimp with corn, tomato and avocado and turkey tacos. Plus, I even bought a few frozen top chef healthy choice meals so I stop grabbing for unhealthy things. Again, progress.

+ On Sunday, I ventured to Target for a few things. One of which being Zyrtec as I've decided to go back on the meds and add contact rewetting drops into the mix. I had went off them because my eyes/contacts were getting unbearably dry. But I've been getting sinus headaches far too often.

+ The other thing I bought was a few more frames. I've been saving a lot of my favorite images on pinterest and now that I have a printer, I'd love to print some out and add them to the gallery wall behind my bed.

+ The designer I hired to redesign this blog of mine is finally ready to get started so perhaps new changes will be coming soon!

+ I'm finally getting around to catching up on The Good Wife season 4, and I forgot how much I love this show.

+ By the way, I'm totally Team Gardner.

+ Last week, I suggested we call this weekly post a list of things I didn't do. Aside from attending my client's wine event on Wednesday, which was cancelled do to weather, I did actually get things done last week!

+ And lastly, I'll try and keep my days straight this week.

Que Me In: The Mason Jar

She's a day late, which as I said yesterday is entirely my fault when I screwed up the days this week, but Carly numero dos is back this week with something fun for you to do this weekend. I'll be doing it...with my significant....dog, roommates?

p.s. for those of you that know Carly there's something extra cute about this. But as that might reveal too much information, and her significant other would probably hate me for it, I'll just let you guess and let him remain anonymous... for now :)

My Mason Jar:

To anyone who comes across this jar on my bedside table, may wonder what was once Sarabeth's Jam is now doing in the bedroom.

To tell you the truth, it is a jar I share with my significant other. He'd probably hate that I was sharing this, but because the idea came from Pinterest, it is not exactly a secret.

I was mostly inspired by this craft, because it involved zero trips to the arts & crafts store. I just needed a jar, and an incentive to fill it with memories, love notes, jokes, and just plain old thoughts. I've also thrown in restaurant cards we've visited, movie tickets we've seen together, plane tickets, receipts, just about anything!

That's the fun of it -- there are no rules to this jar! We haven't decided on an opening date yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to unfolding all the thoughtful pieces of paper.

Now it's your turn, a DIY project that requires zero crafts, I'd say that's a win-win situation :)

P.S. Here's the blog that the idea came from.

The days

Confession: I spent all day today thinking it was Wednesday. It didn't occur to me until about 8:30 that it was Thursday and I forgot to blog. Please forgive me.

My Reading List, Summer 2013

I'm an avid reader, always have been. I have this odd innate talent that I'm somehow able to follow along to conversations around me without picking my nose up from a book. I'm also a very quick reader. But probably both of these talents are exacerbated by the genre of novel I tend to enjoy: Chick Lit. Read: Romantic Comedies in book form.

But I'm also one to enjoy a good classic or historically based fiction, or non-fiction actually. Usually I just need some kind of love story.

And summer has always meant one thing: a summer reading list.

Plus I'm hoping to use the summer to put back a few more books for my 101 list.

So here's what I'll be reading over the next 3 months

  1. Mansfield Park
  2. Revenge Wears Prada
  3. Family Pictures
  4. Emma
  5. Someday, Someday, Maybe
  6. The Emperor's Children
What are the next and last three books you've read? (My past three were: Bond Girl, Waiting to be Heard and Wedding Night.

Apartment LOVE: Emily Heart

I'm a HUGE pinterest fan. I'm constantly finding inspiration for my one day home there. And this home, its certainly all over my home sweet home board.

Emily Hart, Blogger at Recently, is one of my daily reads and slowly she's been sharing parts of her home. While it's not all finished yet, here's a peak at her entry way, dining room, living room and office. It's pretty swoon worthy.
