UPDATE: 101 things in 1001 days

Today, I'm heading back east to celebrate Memorial Day. And, if you ask me, Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer. So I thought this would be a perfect time to update you all on my 101 things in 1001 days list...and let you know which of these goals I'd like to accomplish this summer.

I'll say this for the thousandth time now, there's something about summer that just gives me more energy. After work, I'm more apt to do things, I dont like sitting around or sleeping the weekends away.

Plus, we're almost at the year mark since I started this list of mine. And just under two years to go. With 21 down, 80 to go!

This summer, I'd like to:
  • Redesign my blog. Back in April, I put down a deposit and I'm now third on the designers wait list.
  • Summer is filled with activities, like:
    • Going on the Navy Pier Ferris Wheel
    • Learn to throw a football with a spiral (I'm looking at you, Amy)
    • See a movie in the park
    • Have a picnic, which I plan to do at the Goo Goo Dolls / Matchbox20 concert at Ravinia
    • Take a Stand Up Paddler Board Yoga Class
    • Get up on one ski waterskiing, last summers goal was getting out of the wake, I'm moving up int he wold
    • Catch and cook a fish, this one may be a bit ambitious
  • With more time in the day, I have no excuse to not make myself dinner
    • Hopefully I'll be able to make a meal purchased from Green City Farmer's Market
    • And actually start making something from one of the many cooking magazines I subscribe to once a month
  • Yesterday, I "splurged" on Amazon and bought Calligraphy for Dummies and a Calligraphy starter kit. I'm quite excited to learn it!
  • I'm going to learn to relax and do nothing but read. So hopefully, I'll put a good dent on my book list and finish re-reading all of Jane Austen's novels.
  • And, I'm going to continue on my quest to be a full time runner
    • My color run is coming up on June 16
    • And My half marathon, which I'm hoping to do in under 2.5 hours on August 17
It's going to be a good one!

My 3 Week Challenge

[via]

...no I have not morphed into Marissa Miller's body. I wish.

As I mentioned a few times throughout the past month, my trainer and I decided to do a 3 week challenge..

Now I will admit that I probably spend more time than most at the gym. And I'll also admit I never thought I'd hear myself say that. However, what I've learned is that it's really about finding the right fit. My roommate refers to the gym as the country club and I kind of like it that way. I like walking in and someone knowing my name, and usually its more than one person. It's accountability but also friendly, it kind of makes the process less intimidating.

And this training kind of challenge is exactly the kind of way to make the gym a little less daunting.

About the Challenge:
 - The Goal: To Loose a Minimum of 4 lbs and 3% Body Fat
 - Work Out 6 Days a Week
 - Four of the Six Days were HIIT
 - Weight training was 2 - 3 Days / Week

How I did:
Well my trainer went through each of these goals with me yesterday and conducted an assessment i.e. body fat measurements, regular measurements, scale, etc. And what he asked me was, "did you do this 100%?"

The answer, was sadly no. I did try and do it to the best of my ability. However, getting to the gym 6 days a week is quite the challenge. However, when I did get to the gym, which was typically 5 days a week, I was either a. with my trainer lifting or b. doing one his workouts. And those work outs, atleast at first were hard. They're getting easier.

So let's say I gave it 75%. And I'm happy to report I did loose 3 lbs and 2% body fat. Take that.

So what I learned? That doing something like a challenge is such a great motivator. And three weeks is the perfect time. Why you ask? Because it takes approximately 3 weeks to make a habit, and these HIIT training work outs are kind of a habit.

P.S. I promised my trainer I'd give him a shameless shout out to his website and blog, which is one of my favorite daily reads. Check it out. His humor and fantastic personality come through just as great while reading as they do in person!

Apartment LOVE: Olivia Palermo

Olivia Palermo and style are kind of synonymous with each other. There is probably no saying the things I would do to venture in her closet, which by the 63 square feet..

So I was happy to venture into her old Tribeca apartment. And it's pretty stylish.

5.20.13

Good morning and happy Monday, readers!

This week...

+ is going to be a shorter one as I'm taking off on Thursday night to fly home to Boston for Memorial Day and this time, my roommates are coming with me!

+ While we're there we're going to split our time between the city and suburbs, we're going to a sox game, the better sox that is, red sox, and I'm planning to show them around my hometown.

+ Speaking of, I think they screwed up something with the damns and the boats still aren't in the water. I'm praying for a miracle they go in this week.

+ But before we get to that, I have a calendar full of meetings and appointments this week.

+ The TODAY Show is coming to Chicago on Wednesday and a few of my coworkers and I are heading downtown bright and early to see if we can get on TV, and score a photo with Matt and Savannah.

+ My 3 week challenge ended today and I'm going to do an equifit this week to see how much progress we made. Crossing my fingers that we get to cross off those goals. But more on that later this week...

---------------------------------------------

Currently -
Listening: Guster, going to their concert in 2 weeks
Eating: leftover salad from last night, we made it with salmon marinated in Soy Vey, delicious and perfectly cooked
Drinking: Venti Passion Fruit Ice Tea, unsweetened and no water
Feeling: GREAT, not sure why but I'm okay with it
Wanting: Dunkin to get out of his cone, he just looks so sad with it
Needing: another massage, yes I know I just had one but this 3 week challenge killed my back and legs
Thinking: I should probably pay this month's bills, probably.
Enjoying: listening to Jon Hamm's voice, something about it just gets to me
Wondering: How I got the bruise that miraculously has appeared on my arm

[via]

It feels like this week's been going on forever. It probably hasn't helped that it's been beautiful and all I've wanted to do is be outside and not working, which I plan to do allllll weekend long.

Happy weekend to you and yours!

Que me in: Introduction to Carly Numero Dos

Que me in. I'm Carly numero dos. I may be 11 months older, yet I don't consider myself any wiser than this one.

Things to know about Carly # 2:
- I will use "y'all" often in referencing you all
- I'm from Louisville, KY -- & yes, I have been to the derby
- I gradated from IU in 2010, but do not entirely root for the Hoosiers
- I'm a PR Account Manager at Blast! -- so, Carly #1 and I do in fact work on multiple accounts together
- When I'm not at the office or at the gym (Equinox, LP) you can find me at Elaine's coffee shop or Heritage General Store
- I have two NBC crushes, Matt Lauer and Brian Williams, so nobody tell me that they prefer GMA or Diane Sawyer
- Oh, and I really love Peanut Butter

When I first moved to Chicago, almost 3-years ago, I was single & journaling about twenty-somethings in relationships, for Examiner. That came to a halt though, soon after January of 2011 when I met my now boyfriend, who I became very fond of fast, which in-turn stopped me from continuing to journal about dating life. I wanted my relationship to be personal, and had no desire to publicize. Looking back, I think that was the right move. Not over-sharing. I am happy though to report, I am still in a very happy relationship.

Finally, after about 17-ish months co-working together & contemplating whether or not to get back into the blogging world -- I let the blonde Carly talk me into this.

I'll now appear on Thursdays. Weekly. And, I promise to be funny. The subject of my column is still circulating, but it will often be on relationships. And, restaurants -- yes, definitely food!

Apartment LOVE: Danielle Moss Part 2 of 2

Today, I'm sharing Danielle Moss' apartment. This one is just as fantastic, if not more, ok I think I like it more, more Lincoln Park.

This interior speaks for itself so I'm not going to say anymore...

5.13.13

[via]

I know I'm running late on this week but I was back in Mass over the weekend and am just now getting back into the swing of things...and somewhat caught up on sleep from my 7am flight yesterday morning.

Alas, I'm back at it and this week...

+ I've discovered I like the garden center. As a child, I always hated going to the farm or garden or wherever mom got her flowers from. However, I realized this year that I did not in fact hate the shopping component, I hated the whole planting aspect. Lucky me, we didn't have time for that. I just got to walk around outside and pick out pretty flowers like azelas, roses and more. Color me a very happy girl.

+ I'm going to try and not fall behind on my blogroll...and actually try and comment on posts I like.

+ I'm in my last week of my 3 week challenge. Next week, I know we're getting ahead of ourselves, I plan on giving a bit of summary of the challenge and maybe even some fantastic results, let's cross our fingers.

+ I'm angry with Under Armour. I was waiting a package which I thought I accidentally discovered I mailed to my parents house. However, upon arriving home and them not having it, I realized the package what somehow returned and my account was refunded. A little confused. I'm thinking I may go check out the New Balance Heidi Klum line just to spite them.

+ I need to make some appointments i.e. spray tan, eyebrow wax, etc.

+ I'm trying out some new wardrobes with all the new clothes I got while I was home. I was feeling kind of sick of everything so I'm very excited about my new additions. P.s. When my mom says let's go to Lord & Taylor, go to Lord & Taylor, they had some GREAT stuff and even better, a lot of it was on sale.

+ My aunt and uncle got me a J.Crew Gift Card. [Thank you!!] I just cannot decide what I want to get with it but I'm thinking I may splurge on the Eta Pumps. To be determined...

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Currently -
Listening: Phillip Phillips. My mom really likes him and got a song stuck in my head.
Eating: ehhhh I need to go grocery shopping
Drinking: water, and plenty of it.
Feeling: bad for my puppy, he hurt his foot and is in a cone. He is not a happy camper.
Wanting: to go see The Great Gatsby
Needing: see: eating
Thinking: the Heat sucks
Enjoying: being back in Chicago. It's weird how this place has become home over the past 2 years.
Wondering: How Ted met his children' mother...I haven't watched last night's episode yet. Shhhh.

I thought this quote was fitting today for two reasons.

Live every day like a Saturday

Have your heard about Kate Spade Saturday? God those people are geniuses. Incase you haven't, Kate Spade Saturday channels the spirit of the weekend with smart silhouettes, honest fabrics and a sense of spontaneity. Now who wouldn't like that?

All part of the Kate Spade Empire's goal of making living every day like its a Saturday a reality through bright colors, graphic shapes and bold prints.

...only this Saturday comes at about half the cost of the Kate Spade New York line.

While I think I want most of the line's clothes, here are a few of my picks for summer...and did I mention most of the tops come as tops and dresses?!

Apartment LOVE: Danielle Moss Part 1 of 2

I may have mentioned that I put down a deposit to get my blog redesigned. And there were a few reasons I chose the designer I chose.
  1. She's one of the masterminds behind TheEveryGirl
  2. I really enjoy her blog, Breakfast at Toast
  3. I love her style, especially when it comes to her homes
So today, I'm sharing her old apartment with all of you. One day, after I have her redo my blog and when I have a home of my own, I'd like to enlist the services of her and her partner to design and style my home.
