WARNING:

I recently stumbled upon this on Pinterest.

And it got me thinking about what some poor guy is going to have to put up with/be prepared for someday...some bad. some good. some just in between. I.e. I'm flushing out some facts about myself.
  • sharing everything
  • this blog
  • trying absolutely any kind of food
  • traveling
  • thousands of cups of tea a day
  • incessant television watching
  • shoes...and lots of them
  • occasional stomach aches
  • long walks
  • foot rubs
  • too many stories, some interesting, some not
  • shopping
  • random thoughts
  • loud sing alongs in the car
  • friends and family
  • eating the, sometimes obscure, foods that I decide to cook
  • weird noises
  • cuddling
  • hypochondria
  • impulse buys
  • cozy nights at home
  • trying new restaurants
  • soup
  • crying for no reason
  • a lot of questions
  • the Wisconsin Badgers
  • sweatpants
  • too many baked goods
  • naps
  • knowing what I want
  • ...but also being indecisive
  • incessant needs to clean
  • arts & crafts projects
  • stress for no reason
  • emoticons :)
  • occasional bad dreams
  • random adventures
  • online shopping
  • love for all dogs
  • and dunkin's spot in my bed and next to me on the couch
  • occasional dancing
  • always having activities
  • a love of flowers (hint, hint)
  • early mornings and late nights
  • blankets
  • cupcakes
  • candles
  • being dragged on runs or to the gym
  • no make up sundays
  • watching movies illegally (hope the government doesn't read this)
  • sarcasm
  • a lot of patience
  • sticking my tongue out
  • and on going list of things to do, today, tomorrow, in the next 10 years
What would be on your list?

10.29.13

[via]

It's crazy how much traveling I've done this summer and fall. I feel as though every other week I'm off to somewhere. So being in home sweet Chicago with all of roommates and friends in town was very nice. But now, we're back to the daily grind, and luckily in the Midwest we'll be spared by Hurricane Sandy, which unfortunately means it's a regular work day here.

This week, I will...

+ wish a VERY happy birthday to my big brother David, who is celebrating his 27th birthday today, stop getting so old...your card & gift are on their way east

+ be cooking my favorite fall soup, Black Bean Pumpkin Soup

+ find a way to actually get through my daily blog roll on the day the posts are actually posted and leaving comments then, rather than 4 days late...oops

+ potentially see the first snowfall of the year, I love the first snowfall of the year

+ have a 4 day work week, yay for long weekends!

+ am heading to NYC to see my crazy best friend who is running the NY Marathon and meet my pen pal :)

Currently...
listening: Ben Taylor and yes, I've recently been introduced to Spotify and enjoying being able to catch up on everything my favorite artists came out with for the past 5 years
eating: started the morning with some cottage cheese & tomato
drinking: pumpkin spice latte
wearing: look to the right ->
feeling: like it's a Monday morning, mix of tired, denial and like I can take on the world
weather: sunny but a bit of the chilly side...again potential for snow this week
wanting: just 5 more minutes of sleep
needing: a good work out and someone to stretch me out afterwards
thinking: about my blogroll for the rest of the week...and what I love that starts with X
enjoying: the peace and quiet of working from home today
wondering: what makes someone a Food Network recipe person vs a Bon Appetit Magazine recipe person, I am among the latter

A halloween themed quote

...that I'm not sure I really even understand it's meaning.

Happy W-ednesday

I suppose all my Ws are surrounded by one thing: my love for interiors.

And, it all begins with a blank canvas, which can really be turned into anything. However, I'm partial to simple. I love a vintage yet classic look, one that's elegant. There's nothing I find more elegant than white. I love all white interiors: white kitchens, white offices, white desks, white bedrooms.

Other W's:
I LOVE West Elm and am really hoping to someday own these.
And also enjoy a good shopping trip at Williams Sonoma.
I've found my next DIY, wallpaper, inspired by beautiful gift wrap, which I can't find the link to!

J.Crew Winter!

I know what you're thinking, another blog post about J.Crew, another blogger blogging about J.Crew, another blog post about the J.Crew new arrivals. I'm sorry. It's just too good not to though. Have you checked out their new arrivals? (many of which were posted in here and here) What are you going to be purchasing? Above are some of my favorites!

*Rant: I've been obsessed with these, especially the Fair Island Knit since J.Crew revealed their Fall/Winter lines back in February at their Fashion Shows. When they didn't come out in the fall, I anxiously awaited their debut with the winter line...and they were. Then, I saw the price tag. I know, J.Crew LOVES their collaborations. However, J.Crew has always been the perfect line between great quality, great trends, classic styles anddddd pretty affordable pricing. So why oh why are these sweaters priced in the $500-600 range? Do they also feed me for a month? Because that's just silly...and ridiculous....and makes me quite angry.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
P.S. Look what's finally on sale! They aren't available in the color I loved most but I think I'm going to have to get them anyway.

10.22.12

[via]

Happy Monday! This weekend was a great one, filled with a visit from my big brother David and his girlfriend Hannah. We, okay they, spent the weekend being tourists, cheering on his precious wildcats and enjoying themselves. And now, I find myself, once again, at Monday. Bring it on week!

This week, I

+ am dedicated my blog post to a very special Nana, who's birthday was yesterday. She's probably this blog's number one reader and one of my number one fans and for that I'm pretty damn grateful. Love ya!

+ will be starting back on a healthy lifestyle i.e. working out daily and eating healthy. This includes this morning's 7am work out and healthy already defrosting chicken for dinner.

+ shop for the remaining items of our Halloween costumes, I'll let you know what we are after the holiday next week ; )

+ plan to take the week by storm, being productive and efficient both at work and at home. Watch out!

Happy Friday!

I know, I'm two days late on this but for some reason, with being away on Monday, I had too much content so this had to be pushed back to today. Happy Weekend, all!

The Check List

To quote a not-so-fantastic-yet-quite-entertaining movie, yes, The Ugly Truth, " Let me tell you something about women. Women would have us believe that they are the victims; That we break their hearts for sport. That's crap. They say they want romance, they say they want true love, but all they want is a check list. Is he perfect? Is he handsome? Is he a doctor? For you men who fit the criteria, don't kid yourselves. Cuz they're not sleeping with you, they're sleeping with a carefully calculated set of venal choices. Money over substance, looks over soul, polished over principles. No gesture, no matter how real or romantic will ever compensate for a really impressive list of credentials."

It's true what he says. Women do have a check list they are looking for. Although, I don't think it's quite as shallow as Gerald Butler seems to think. You know, the usual...

  • Straight
  • Kind
  • Intelligent
  • A Sense of Humor
  • A Job
  • Chemistry
  • To name a few...
My friends all seem to have a check list, yet it seems were all single. Perhaps thats a coincidence, perhaps not. But what I've also noticed is there always seems to be something missing or some kind of fault.
  • Not Jewish
  • Has a Girlfriend
  • Lives Across the Country
  • Went to a different Big 10 School, well really Michigan, OSU, Minnesota or Nebraska
  • Missing a leg, feel free to call me a horrible person
  • Etc...
But I suppose/hope someday, we'll find someone who makes us throw out the list or simply make an exception for - wWhat do you think? What are on your two lists?

22nd Letter

Here we are at the 22nd letter of the alphabet. And I'm vying over more than one V...

As Carrie Bradshaw famously said, [yes, I should count how many times I quote her, and Jane Austen, on this blog] "When I first moved to New York and I was totally broke, sometimes I would buy Vogue instead of dinner. I just felt it fed me more." While I do tend to splurge on dinner, I also have a huge weakness for Magazines. I currently subscribe to Bon Appetit, Cooking Light, Food Network Magazine, Chicago Magazine, ELLE Decor, SELF and Women's Health andddd I'm a sucker for purchasing magazines like People, Vogue and Vanity Fair whenever I like what I see on the cover.

I'm learning to describe my style and I think I'm coming to define it as rustic glamour. With that, I think I might have to throw in some vintage.

red velvet because everyone deserves something sinfully sweet

Some of my favorite brands start with this letter, including velvet by Graham & Spencer and vince. I'm a sucker for their comfortable yet stylist clothing. And what girl, seriously find me one, who isn't a sucker for a Vera Wang something white.

And, lastly vases to give pretty flowers a nice home.

This weekend in a nutshell

I say that completely seriously, too. As my brother girlfriend, who is allergic to all but peanuts, was not with us, we had a fair amount of nuts so he could get his fix...lots and lots of pesto and fudge, etc.

As I alluded to, I went home and to Martha's Vineyard for a family wedding i.e. my pseudo big sister got married, which is kind of crazy. Ok more than crazy.

Took some backyard photos for my 101 in 1001 list...going to do this monthly and turn it into a calendar. Bye bye boats & jet skis.

But still pretty.

Had a photoshoot with this guy...I know, typical.

He's just so photogenic

Headed down to the Cape & Martha's Vineyard

Heyyyy Ferry.

My mom was an obnxious girl and the second I took out the camera ran to my dad's side as if to suggest I take a photo, I obliged.

We clean up well though, if I don't say so myself.

And my big sister got married. CRAZY, right? But she looked beautiful. Dana's been planning her wedding for as long as I've known her which was since I met her little brother in playgroup at age 2 so since she was 6. I'm happy to say, I know it was exactly as she had planned it. While I'm not the type to be planning my wedding, I am the type to know EXACTLY what I want. And now, I have to say, rustic yet classic barn wedding has been taken. What shall I do instead?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P.S. My dad sent me this photo late last night. It cracked me up. How ridiculous is he?!

happy weekend!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. I'm off in New England, more specifically Martha's Vineyard for a wedding.

Vroom vroom

Driving Shoes - These puppies sure have been pretty popular this season. Driving shoes are a contemporary version of the traditional Native American moccasins with the addition of rubber tabs on the sole. The tabs add to the versatility of the shoe while maintaing flexibility and comfort. [Thanks Wikipedia] The shoes were made popular by Tod's.

I scored myself a pair on sale at Urban Outfitters this past weekend. [Top left] Bonus, they were having an additional 20% off sale so they were even cheaper!

what I know

Last week, we spoke about relationships. It happened to have been one of my most popular posts - apparently, you liked what you saw. So this week, we're talking about them again.

In Sense and Sensibility, Jane Austen wrote, "The more I know of the world, the more I am convinced that I shall never see a man whom I can really love."

It's similar to what I wrote, although Marianne Dashwood's knowledge of the world is quite different than my own - mine with modern technology, hers with fraught with issues of social standing. However, it is through reading books like those of Jane Austen, watching far too much television and indulging in one too many romantic comedies have led me to the same conclusions... I will never find a love quite like the one in great literature and semi-great literature (I like chick-lit), television and movies.

10.8.12

It feels like forever ago that I shut down my computer for the weekend this past Friday. Since then, I traveled back to Madison for a weekend with friends. Being back there is always bittersweet. While it's great to be with old friends and familiar places, its also sad to reflect on times passed. It made me miss my friends, my former carefree lifestyle and Gino's soups.

For those of you celebrating Columbus Day today are very lucky. I'm back to the daily grind, feeling like I need a vacation from my vacation. This week I will...

+ add a little holiday cheer to my apartment by decorating with pumpkins and more. Perhaps even purchasing my favorite candy corn.

+ start packing way ahead of time for my upcoming trip so I am not only prepared and ready but also not completely overpacking...I tend to overpack

+ travel back to the best coast, and sneak in a good cuddle session with Dunkin.

+ attend my best family friend's daughters wedding on Martha's Vineyard. As families, we've grown up together, spending summer weekends at their house on vineyard and winters at our house in the White Mountains.

What will you be tackling this week? If you're nice, and leave a comment, one lucky commentor might just get Murdick's fudge sent their way!

A - Z Series: U is for...

I thought U was going to be a challenge. But surprisingly, it wasn't too bad. I cannot believe we're nearing the end of this series! Without my further ado, my Us:

 - Maybe my love for umbrellas is the stem of my love for rainy days. I absolutely love pretty umbrellas and days when it commits to raining all day. Nothing beats the feeling of being warm inside looking out at the rain drops, or being outside, bundled up with rain boots and a cute umbrella.

- I've long been a fan of urban decay make up. They make fantastic shadows individually and produced the coveted naked palettes which I would recommend to absolutely anyone, esp. for those looking for girl gifts. They also make some really fun colors for eye pencils!

- I tried to find some images of Urban Outfitters window displays but failed. I lived 2 doors over from a fantastic Urban Outfitters for a year, and about a block away for the other 3 in college. It was a struggle for many reasons but mostly because they have such fan-freaking-tastic visual merchandising that you can't help wanting to walk in the stoor and buy the outfit all 4 mannequins in the windows are wearing, then throughout the store on one of the 10,000 mannequins dressed up throughout the store.

- Speaking of college, the University of Wisconsin. Enough said.

- Speaking of Wisconsin, me and UGGs, we became close friends. The slipper pair was actually the first pair of UGGs I owned back in either middle school or early high school and I still wear them today. They are my favorite. Then, over the years, living in New Hampshire skiing and studying in Wisconsin, I've curated quite the collection.

p.s. to my faithful readers, what Us did you think of and what kind of series are you interested in next? Leave a comment :P

a confession

My co-worker has been considering re-launching her blog and sharing with the world or whomever stumbles upon her blog about relationships. So naturally, in Carrie Bradshaw fashion, I got to thinking about them myself.

Maybe I should have discussed this back when I very seriously considering applying for the Bachelor for Sean Lowe but as I prepared to explain why I was turning to reality television to find love, I found myself writing a pretty decent application. Without further ado, I vent...

You see, I grew up LOVING romantic comedies, probably more so than the average girl. To this day, I watch re-run upon re-run of You've Got Mail, Serendipity, Pretty Woman, The Wedding Planner, When Harry met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, 10 Things I Hate About You, Life as We Know It, Nine Months, No Strings Attached, Sex and the City, Sweet Home Alabama, How to Lose a Guy in 10 days and many more. You name a movie with Meg Ryan in it and I've probably seen in a minimum of 15 times. [yes, I had a very hard time not adding 500 more movies to that list from imdb's list of 100 best romantic comedies]

And like Megan Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle, I define love by what I see in the movies, when time, distance, nothing could separate them because they knew it was right and real. I too want to be in love in a movie.

...perhaps this would make a compelling case for why I wanted to give falling into love on reality TV. Perhaps, this is why I'm crazy. Perhaps this is why I'm single?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
p.s. are there any of you out there reading this? if so, I'd LOVE to hear from you. Leave a comment :P

10.1.12

Who can believe it's already October?
This week, I...

+ will take shockwave, which is now at Equinox Lincoln Park. This class is their newest class with 4 circuit stations, rowing, core, legs and upper body, plus a healthy dose of competition. The entire class is moved by the rowing station which you cannot move on to the next station until the last person finishes their yardage.

+ plan to get dressed up enough to take 5 #ootd shots

+ will be cooking dinner myself, more than once...actually at least 4 times as I purchased 3 marinated chicken breasts at the grocery store this past weekend

+ vow to cut back on processed goods i.e. pantry foods

+ depressingly missed the season premiere of Revenge. Our TiVo for some odd reason decided not to record the episode. I was not happy.

+ am going to Madison and I am so so so excited to be visiting my former hometown! A few friends and I will be leaving on Friday evening and are in for a weekend of the Madison farmer's market, Gotham Bagels and, of course, Badger football.
